Senior Scientist, Image and Video Exploitation Technology

We are seeking leading researchers in the field of image/video understanding and exploitation for a key role on battlefield ISR and ATR development teams for federal clients. Strong need for exploiting information available in imagery/video from various sensors on UAF or terrestrial platforms. Distinguished Scientist
Numenta

The work being done at Numenta lies at the intersection of machine learning, neuroscience and software engineering. As a distinguished engineer you will contribute to the team of architects, researching and enhancing new probabilistic learning and inference algorithms for Numenta\'s Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) technology and use those algorithms to solve problems in computer vision, speech recognition, multi-variable time-series prediction etc. In the process, you will build a better understanding of cortical functions and look at machine learning and computational learning theory from novel view points. You will document your inventions for publications and patents, and keep a keen eye on advances in the field of machine learning and neuroscience.

Founded in 2005, Numenta (www.numenta.com) is developing a new type of computer memory system modeled after the human neocortex. The applications of this technology are broad and can be applied to solve problems in computer vision, artificial intelligence, robotics and machine learning. The Numenta technology, called Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM), is based on a theory of the neocortex described in Jeff Hawkins’ book entitled On Intelligence

Qualifications and Skills: We are seeking an extraordinary senior engineer who has strong critical thinking and problem solving skills to play a leading role in shaping the future of Numenta*s HTM technology. You should be well versed in the fundamentals of probability theory, linear algebra, signal processing, optimization and machine learning, and at the same time be able to think beyond the established mathematical frameworks for learning and pattern recognition. You will be a catalyst for innovation and able to quickly prototype algorithms and test them in a large problem setting. In addition to being analytical and rigorous about particular problems, you should also be able to synthesize ideas from disparate disciplines. You should be a natural leader able to influence people across the organization and enjoy intense discussions and should have a healthy dose of skepticism and rigor.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and skill set. We also will consider strong candidates from related disciplines (eg; communication theory, information theory and coding) who are passionate about learning new techniques and applying their experience to real world problems.

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline OR Masters in CS/EE with relevant research work experience
  • Strong understanding of Probability Theory
  • Course work or experience in Bayesian Networks, Markov Models and Convex Optimization
  • Exposure to Bayesian Belief Propagation
  • Expertise in applying learning algorithms to pattern recognition and prediction problems
  • Solid experience working with large data sets
  • Knowledge of recent developments in machine learning
  • Course work or experience in image/video processing and computer vision
  • Exposure to Information Theory and Statistics
  • Should be an excellent problem solver and a motivated self-starter
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Strong programming skills.
  • C/C++ and MATLAB required - Knowledge of Python desirable

The Division of Biomedical Informatics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has an immediate opening for a Research Scientist. CCHMC is one of the world’s top pediatric research, care and educational institutions. Our medical and research faculty comprise the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

The research focus for this position will be in the area of Natural Language Processing and Neurology. The ideal candidate will have training in natural language processing, machine learning, text mining, or mathematic modeling. Priority will be given to applicants with a proficiency in multiple computer languages (Perl, PHP, Java or JavaScript, etc) and databases (MySql) as well as having the ability to use available open source resources. A PhD, MD or other advanced degree is required.

Assistant Professor of Cognitive Science
Occidental College

Occidental College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Cognitive Science Program. We seek someone whose research interests lie within Computational Cognitive Science broadly construed, whose work deals with computational approaches to one or more areas of cognition. A strong commitment to teaching and research at a liberal arts institution is essential. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in cognitive science or a related field by the start date of August 2009. The successful applicant will contribute to expanding our curriculum, will have opportunities to teach within and outside of the Cognitive Science Program, and will contribute to developing a newly allocated teaching and research laboratory for the program. Regular faculty teach 5 courses per year, and are eligible to apply for sabbatical semesters every fourth year. Completed applications received by December 5th, 2008 will receive full consideration.
