Grounding Symbolic Communication Requires Competitive Adaptation of Representations

David Jung

The paper outlines our position that the realization of grounded symbolic communication between robots requires competitive adaptation of the anchoring of internal representations. We do this by way of explaining how we came to this realization while building a cooperative system aimed at grounded symbolic communication. The system is very briefly described only in enough detail to support the argument.
