Stages in the Process of Scientific Discovery

Efforts to apply systematic methods to problems of scientific discovery involve many steps, few of which are explicitly discussed in the literature. Here we attempt to characterize the main stages of the process, including some that appear as important to successful results as the discovery method itself.
