This symposium discussed the issue of socially intelligent agents (SIA), focusing on the concrete realization of artificial systems (robots, software agents). Discussions considered humans, software and hardware agents, in both natural and synthetic environments. The first day of the symposium focused on SIA research from different viewpoints. The talks addressed the following topics: modeling human societies, social robots, believable software agents and software pets, cultural aspects of social intelligence, VR environments which further human social networking.
